DEEPEN researchers Dr. Natascha van der Zwan and Dr. Philipp Golka, together with junior researcher Aalt-Jan Smits, will present research finding at a Roundtable Event organized by the Monitoring Commission of the Dutch Pension Fund Code (Monitoringcommissie Code Pensioenfondsen) of the Pension Federation (Pensioenfederatie). The Pension Fund Code is a key resource of Dutch pension fund governance. Topic of the event is a specific part of the Code, which concerns so-called internal supervision – a control function of pension fund boards that has been introduced by the legislator in 2014.
At the event, the team of Leiden University researchers will present first findings of a recent study on internal supervision within Dutch pension fund governance. Drawing on a survey as well as in-depth qualitative interviews, the researchers will describe the experiences of internal supervisors in safeguarding participant preferences, diversity, and a learning organization. In addition, they will stimulate discussion among pension fund board members and internal supervisors by presenting a number of dilemmas that, according to their research, internal supervisors face as part of their responsibilities. The findings from these round table discussions will inform the final research report that aims at serving as a scientific basis for future improvement of the Dutch Pension Fund Code.
DEEPEN team member Philipp Golka said about the event:
“I am very much looking forward to the roundtable discussions with pension fund executives together with the Monitoring Commission. Discussing with such experienced personnel is an amazing opportunity to have a direct, real-world impact and a great way to valorize our DEEPEN research.”
The roundtable discussions will be held on September 22nd and 28th in Utrecht and The Hague, Netherlands. More information regarding the research project on internal supervision can be found here.
